During the course of this class, my thinking about art has changed. I began to interpret themes on a deeper level, finding new possibilities to use them that I wouldn't have seen before. I am now more likely to draw people than i was before and I use a variety of different mediums now. I also understand the different styles of art and the history behind them now. I now see more ways of expression in art. A particular unit that i learned a lot in was the artists steal unit. In this unit i learned how to base my work off of another artist without just copying it, i learned how to interpret it. The images below show how my thinking has changed because they are in mediums i wouldn't typically use before this class.
My art making skills have greatly improved over the course of this class. I have become better at using mediums such as charcoal, paint and pastels. I have also become better at drawing subjects such as hands and people. My use of value and color has improved as has the accuracy of my drawings. My interpretation of themes has also improved, i now see them on a deeper level and am able to make more creative pieces using them. Below are photos that show my growth.
My favorite project this semester was the artists inspire unit. I liked it because it had few limitations so it gave me many options to choose from. I also liked that we had to use a piece from the North Carolina Museum of Art as inspiration because we learned about already existing art while at the same time creating new art. I also really enjoyed creating my pieces, it was interesting to see how they turned out.
I really enjoyed taking this art class. I liked the variety of styles and mediums we were taught and able to use. I also liked the variety of themes and projects we took on. It expanded my knowledge and interpretation of art. This class really helped me improve the quality of my art. However, in terms of learning, I would have liked a larger clay unit or a tapestry/weaving unit. Those are both something i really enjoy and would liked to have done. I also would have liked to have done a unit of drawing human faces, something i have always found very difficult to do.
